Ontario’s public colleges welcome the federal government’s update to the post-graduation work permit (PGWP) eligibility criteria for graduates of college bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. International students in these programs will no longer be subject to the PGWP field of study requirement and will now be eligible for a PGWP upon graduation.
This change is an important recognition of the high-quality degree programs Ontario's public colleges offer. Earlier this year, Colleges Ontario sent a letter signed by all 24 Ontario college presidents to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, emphasizing the strength of these programs. We appreciate that the government has listened to this collective advocacy from Ontario and across Canada.
We also extend our gratitude to Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) for their leadership and advocacy in highlighting the value of college degree programs.
